Samantha's Story: From Farmworker Family to Future Computer Engineer

Samantha immigrated to the United States from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, at just two years old. Her family faced real financial hardship — her parents worked low-wage jobs to get by, and by age fifteen, Samantha was working too. Despite it all, she graduated high school in the top 5% of her class, unsure how she would ever be able to afford college.

As a farmworker dependent, Samantha connected with Telamon | TRC and began working with a Workforce Development Specialist. "I felt like a burden was lifted off my shoulder," she says, describing the moment she learned Telamon would help fund her training fees and supplies.

That support opened the door to her dream: today, Samantha is pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering at Florence-Darlington Technical College. She credits both Telamon Corporation and the technical college for making her goals achievable — calling it, finally, a chance to realize the American Dream.
